- While the evaluation process
seems complicated, it provides the most complete set of
- circumstances and
options I could think of to be fair to both of us.
- The Evaluation Process
may unfold as follows.
- 1)
My
returned phone call may be enough to determine reparability and approximate
cost, no charge for time on the phone. Some things are still free.
-
- 2)
The
next step is to schedule an initial screening to look at your equipment, which
will determine two possible courses of action;
-
- (A)
I reserve the right to turn down the repair for a multitude of reasons, I leave
and you pay nothing, wow free again, or
-
- (B)
I will give a 'best guess' verbal 'cost to repair'.
-
-
(a) You can turn down the verbal estimate
costing you $20 for my trip or
-
-
(b) you may say OK and I will proceed to
do a full diagnostic evaluation. If
time does not permit an immediate diagnostic evaluation, I will collect the $20
and apply it
toward the rescheduled evaluation cost.
-
- 3) Full diagnostic
evaluation is billed as shown under Evaluation Rates after which I will
give a revised, written if required, cost to repair -- or
-
- (A)
give me the final option to refuse the repair at the $20 already collected or
-
- (B)
give you the final option to refuse the repair at the evaluation rates or
-
- (C)
have me complete the repair for the revised estimate.
-
- (insurance companies need a full
diagnostic written estimate to pay you)
- I don't collect from insurance
companies or warrantee contractors, you are my customer
-
- Should repair be delayed, i.e.
parts on order, you will need to pay the evaluation charge at that time;
the balance is paid only when the repair is complete.

I was recently asked if I
worked on other equipment.
Sorry about the cynical answer, rough Monday,
I used to repair all sorts of electronics.
When DVD players first began to replace VCR's, the replacement
value of this equipment began to take a nose dive.
The parts however did not. The
cost to repair began to exceed the cost to replace.
I have the only job in America that demands a pay cut for the
required increase in knowledge to keep up.
I resorted to
the only REQUIRED household electronic item, the TV, to try to make my
living, but with the onset of the flat panels, this profit margin too is
quickly shrinking to nothing. Just the
replacement parts alone sometimes cost more than I used to get for the
whole repair. The only
thing that will bring profitability back to my business is a complete
breakdown in international commerce and the closing of Wal-Mart. I
think Obama can do it. ---YES HE CAN--
Put a crown
on a tooth $800 to $1000. A decent pair of glasses $400 not including the exam and replacements
every 2 years, mine were over $500. If I charge $200 to save a $700
TV folks act like I just slapped their child.
The short answer is no, can't afford to.
